Give-up-dark-street“When Leaders Fail to Lead”
Part 1

Isaiah 56:10
“Israel’s watchmen are blind, they all lack knowledge; they are all mute dogs, they cannot bark; they lie around and dream, they love to sleep.”

They called Isaiah, “the Prince of the Prophets!”  Isaiah challenges the leadership of Judah and assigns the problem of the nation’s moral and ethical ills to their charge.  The most Reverend President James A. Garfield  made a powerful observation during his 19 years in the Senate.  Even though his presidency was only 200 days old ( you see, radical leaders like this often live very short lives), it was enough to get some significant work done including the adding of several African Americans to key positions in Government.

His statement read like this:
“Now more than ever the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature….If the next centennial does not find us a great nation . . . it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces.”

Corrupt Leaders Are Blind to the Dangers that Face The Nation

Isaiah 56:10
“Israel’s watchmen are blind, they all lack knowledge; they are all mute dogs, they cannot bark; they lie around and dream, they love to sleep.”

It was the godless and wicked conduct of Judah’s leaders that caused the nation to fall to Babylon had the prophets, priests, and rulers turned to God in repentance and faith, He would have intervened on their behalf but they persisted in rebellion by worshiping other god’s and ignoring the Sabbath the result is that God invites the enemies of God’s people to devour the nation.

Looking at Isaiah 56 we see The Father of all Israel via the Prophet Isaiah lodge multiple charges against the leaders of the nation of Israel.  There was an overwhelming breakdown of moral, spiritual and political leadership.
Now we see God respond!  The Father in turn looses  Israel’s enemies to attack and consume her.

Isaiah 56:9
“Come, all you beasts of the field, come and devour, all you beasts of the forest!”

This was not novice we find the same situation with leadership that the prophets Jeremiah and Ezekiel talked about

Jeremiah 12:9
“Has not my inheritance become to me like a speckled bird of prey that other birds of prey surround and attack? Go and gather all the wild beasts; bring them to devour.”

Ezekiel 34:5
“So they were scattered because there was no shepherd, and when they were scattered they became food for all the wild animals.”

Ezekiel 34:8
“As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, because my flock lacks a shepherd and so has been plundered and has become food for all the wild animals, and because my shepherds did not search for my flock but cared for themselves rather than for my flock,”

When God’s elect leaders especially then that are called by His name, will not acknowledge God and promote the ways of God, that nation is delivered to three things:  Matthew 6 and Luke 12 reminds us about Godly addition, “these things shall be added unto you.”  The disillusionment of sin creates a different environment for addition in the Believer.  When our A.D.D. causes us to forget God, we are subject to a.d.d.: Anarchy, disorder and destruction.

Characteristics of Corrupt Leaders

Isaiah 56:10-11 Isaiah vividly describes the moral and ethical character—of lack there of—of Israel’s political and spiritual leaders
corrupt leaders are unobservant leaders—

“Israel’s watchmen are blind,” v. 10 — Isaiah characterizes them as blind watchmen

The watchman was one who stood upon the tower or wall of the city to observe whether an enemy was approaching, or if the word be applied to shepherds, one who kept watch to see that wild beasts did not approach the flock. From this it is clear that one portion of the prophetical work was to warn the nation of its enemies, to tell of impending danger and disaster.

Many laughed at me during a recent trip members of my staff and I took to Philadelphia of February 14, 2014. What God showed me for this nation and for our President were pertinent and the ensuing days have affirmed my fears and concerns and if no one will ever credit this body of Believers for their selfless and sacrificial acts of prayer, I have no doubt that our time there was not only significant but necessary.

Blind prophets can not know the nature of real and ensuing danger.  These are the kind of leaders that  Ezekiel describes in 13:10 as crying “Peace” when there is no peace.  These are riders on the party bus.

The blind leader is a leader who is unaware that enemies are lurking.  This describes the Pastor or spiritual leader who fails to see the dangers of doctrinal or theological heresy that threaten Godly congregations

This describes the Politician who’s myopia cannot see past the next election. Beloved, “corrupt leaders are ignorant leaders!”

There are three things that  blind leaders lack:
“they all lack knowledge,” v. 10;
“they lack understanding,” v. 11
they are spiritually and politically ignorant because they have neglected their heritage in the Lord, all to get on the party bus.

Israel’s rulers were leaders who had forgotten their God and their birthright.  Look at Hosea 4:6 “my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge … “
